Though Cape Verde did not have to fight Portugal for its independence, it did turn to socialism immediately, embracing the leadership of Amílcar Cabral in that direction. The first stamps were colonial stamps overprinted, followed by some very interesting stamps like the series with local, intricately carved coconut shells. That is the sort of local cultural thing I like to see on stamps!
