Understand the mind, narrative, and implicit values of law. I 'passed the bar' in a number of countries, and that is what helps most. Picture real world situations, study real contracts and pleadings. Contemplate characters applying legal principles — when conflict happens — and learn the stories of real cases you study. Imagine statutes you read as plot devices steering complex tales. We learn best by stories and experience — detail holds us; We are designed to deal with other people — their minds, values, and stories. Imagine and you may remember what you need to know, not just for a silly exam, which nonetheless is necessary to protect the public, but for years or decades. Learn the story of the law. Learn to tell it convincingly.
