Still curious about all things SpaceX! Thanks again to @hiconsulduarte for previous answer about the COPVs, and to @eliseimaslov for the beautiful Raptor schematic. ( see: https://gab.com/hiconsulduarte/posts/106946514825195165 ) My next question is about the propellant subcoolers, those oddly shaped pipe sculptures on racks on either side of the GSE tanks. How exactly do they work? As I understand it, their purpose is to densify the lox and methane by cooling them well below their boiling point so that we can fit more propellant into the booster and starship tanks. But how exactly do they do this? Is it through needle valve gaseous expansion, as in an air conditioner or heat pump? How is the heat removed from the liquids? It would be cool to see a schematic of the interior of these beautiful metal marvels. Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer this one!
