Review of the movie "The Weight" with Ethan Hawke and Russel Crowe I will avoid spoilers here since this is a pretty good film and suggest you see it at some point. I'm just going to comment on why it's interesting beyond being an actual movie. Most people do not know that FDR made gold ownership illegal during The Great Depression. This movie asserts that when he did it, a lot of gold mining companies didn't like the policy, and a lot of gold miners didn't either, so gold thefts were engineered prior to handing over the gold to the US Government. To me, this was a hidden history I had never heard of, but it makes perfect sense. The movie revolves around such an event, and it is good to see movie makers try to shine a light on FDR's gold confiscation. Russel Crowe still has a lot of talent, he's just not getting great roles, but he makes the most out of this one. Ethan Hawke is also good, as is the supporting cast. Hollywood currently has checkboxes, the ideal DEI implant into a movie is a female Black lesbian with a fatal illness. Avi Nash, real name unknown, is an Indian implant into this movie, thrown into a White prison chain gang. He thinks this is unjust because he thinks he's Black. This is just weird. Indians are extremely racist people who get furious if they get mistaken for Black of African extraction, but the Hollywood statement must be made, the boxes must be checked. The story is not enough, the racial message gets the Oscar hope. In contrast, Julia Jones who plays an escaping American Indian, seems organic to the plot, not a checkbox.
