Once #woke 1 #ideology takes over, you cannot win. Make the villain black, somebody screams racist. Put a black character in danger, somebody screams racist. Leave black characters out entirely, somebody screams racist. So what are writers, directors, studios and advertisers supposed to do? That is the absurdity this cartoon is exposing. It used to be simple. Stories were judged on whether they were entertaining, compelling, funny, dramatic, or worth watching. Characters could be heroes, villains, fools, victims, geniuses, cowards, and everything in between, because that is what human beings are. Then the cultural referees showed up with their scorecards. Suddenly every casting choice is a political statement. Every storyline has to pass an ideological purity test. Every creative decision can trigger an accusation from people who are determined to be offended. That does not produce better art. It produces frightened corporations, formulaic entertainment, and writers who are constantly looking over their shoulders. And here is the real irony. They are selling us this idea that judging people primarily by their race, gender or politics is progress. It makes no sense. #WokeIdeology destroys everything it touches because ideology becomes more important than #reality, common sense, humor, individual character and even basic storytelling. Nobody can satisfy contradictory rules. Eventually everybody is just afraid to say what everyone else can plainly see.
