This is second postscript to Matt Ehret and Cynthia Chung’s excellent article. This is in 3 parts. 1. At the current time the three largest holders of US debt are Japan, China and UK in that order. That recently changed when China dumped a very large block in response to Trump’s tariff threats and that upended the bond market, stock market and even a few tsunamis thru the FOREX on certain currencies especially the US dollar. Moral of that story is the USA cannot bully it’s way out of the mess DC created. 2. Right now the two biggest industrial giants are China and Japan. The US no longer is #1 yet still consumes 20-25% of energy for a lifestyle. That is no longer sustainable. 3. The Japanese have been around much longer than USA. The Kikkomon company that makes soy sauce was founded in 1536. The Japanese have an interesting business approach named Keiretsu where competitors join forces for a common goal. Horizontal keiretsu is banks join forces. Vertical keiretsu is when corporations join forces. First horizontal and vertical keiretsu I have ever seen is #8 Honda and #9 Nissan are merging to become #3 in the world behind #1 Toyota, #2 Volkswagen Group. During the 1960s and 1970s the motto was “As goes GM (formerly #1 in the world) so goes the USA. Understand?
