Measure the mattress A platform bed needs to be an inch longer or an inch wider than your mattress. Gather the materials You will need more than wood to build a platform bed. You need some tools and supplies that include staining and painting supplies. 4. Assemble the base Assemble the base with either 2 X 10 foot or 2 X 8-foot boards. Cut correct board sizes Cut those boards and ensure that they are the right size that fits the base and places one edge to another such that it forms a rectangle. Take a measurement and cut about three crosspieces. It will depend on the base's size. These cross pieces would fit in the rectangle. Ensure that they are spaced evenly. 6. Use wood screws to assemble the base Drill holes to fit the screws in all boards and use glue to the ends to seal all the joints. Place the boards in place Place the short pieces of boards in between the gaps of cross pieces and fasten them in place so that the base is stabilized. Stagger these pieces evenly. 8. Build the platform The way you assembled the base is the same way you will use to assemble the platform.
