(opinion) Well, that all said by David Kurten, perhaps it is more succinct to state that real direct democracy is broken/dead, as is the [English] constitutional framework. It is that way because of deliberate action over centuries. That is why what is highlighted in Kurten's piece and other things, is as it is currently. If you don't build on that rock (bring it back and preserve and protect it for good etc), then life is always going to be much more unstable and corrupted and open to autocrats and the like. Then, Parliamentary reform is needed - but who is brave enough to do it .. is it the Heritage Party. Doubt it. Everyone seems to make tinkering promises, but no one is 'extreme' enough to do what's really fundamentally needed on that and many other matters. Any one who tries to be 'extreme', gets rounded on and maligned. One start at improving things and said many times: subject to careful time limited exigencies of duty, then no new national or local laws/acts, especially ones carrying punitive affects, can be tabled/implemented unless, in clear enough detail, on a manifesto, or subject to a referendum by the people. Politicians to be personally liable if they cannot reasonably demonstrate their vote on any issue carries their constituents' mandate. Government/Parliament has got to get out of its head that it is sovereign; it is the people who are. It has to get out of its head that being in government/parliament gives a right to tell people of the country what they have to do and pay for etc. The three pillars of English constitution that are no longer separate or holding each to account, having been corrupted, ie. Law/Justice, Monarchy and Parliament, need cleaning up. The Lords needs clearing out of politically appointed crass and getting back to what it should be. The Commons is just a joke with elected puppets of the 'establishment', that represent not their constituents. "We are English. England is a country that is part of a union making up the state that is the United Kingdom. British/Britain is just a land area of islands on the western edge of the continent; Great Britain being the largest It is not a country, or a nation, though some want to ensure it becomes that and especially that heritage England, Scotland, Wales no longer exists".
