Soldiers of the Cross (May 25, 2026) “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” (John 15:13) Throughout the glorious history of our great nation, we have been richly blessed by men and women of valor who have died to secure and defend the freedoms that we cherish. As we honor the memory of those gallant soldiers who willingly sacrificed their lives in expression of love for their country, let us draw strength from their examples of courage, and resolve to carry on their legacy of selfless service to humanity. Like never before, our beloved United States of America faces a multitude of daunting challenges. We are confronted on a diverse multitude of battlefields where not only our liberties, but our health and well-being, economic prosperity, social unity, moral values, and Christian lifestyle are being vigorously threatened. As soldiers for Jesus Christ, who made the supreme sacrifice for our sins, we must trust in the LORD to empower and guide our assault as we battle these formidable foes. “You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” (2 Timothy 2:3) As we remember their enduring contributions to the way of life we hold dear and pay tribute to the nation’s war dead on this somber Memorial Day, may we be inspired by their sacrificial service and rededicate ourselves as Christians to accomplishing the earthly mission to which we have been recruited as saints and soldiers of the cross. Just as these brave warriors gave their all to defend and protect the nation they dearly loved in armed conflicts around the world, let us just as steadfastly and boldly defend our Christian faith even to the extreme of our many faithful persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ worldwide who are increasingly becoming Christian martyrs for the love of their God. We do not go into spiritual warfare against evil forces in weakness. We are outfitted in the armor of salvation, righteousness, faith, truth, the gospel, God’s Word, and prayer! Let the inspiring hymn “Onward Christian soldiers” be our battle charge! “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
