On Linux - I tested marker ( https://github.com/datalab-to/marker ) for converting a PDF into markdown which took about an hour to run, but the output was the best i've seen from an automated tool. i ran the results into pandoc ( https://pandoc.org/ ) and created an epub file with it, and then check how it looks in Thorium Reader ( https://www.thoriumreader.com/en/download/ ) - quite impressive results - recommend this. The idea behind all this is so that one can then use the TTS in an android ebook reader to listen as an audiobook. https://github.com/readest/readest is also another good ereader i came across
