There's a video going around of a guy walking onto someone else's lawn, taking a full swing at a little ornamental tree with a baseball bat, and not stopping until it's lying on the ground. Then he turns to the camera and lays out some homemade fine schedule like he's the HOA, the judge, and the sheriff all rolled into one flannel shirt. Now, I wasn't there. I don't know the backstory, the history between these folks, or what "warnings" were allegedly issued before this. Not my circus, but I'll tell you the one thing I do know, with total confidence, standing on solid ground: Who brings a baseball bat to take down a tree? 🤔 That's not enforcement. That's not landscaping. That's a guy who skipped the tool aisle and went straight to the sporting goods section. Somewhere, a chainsaw is filing a complaint of its own. If you've got a tree, a branch, or a shrub that's overstepped its welcome, and you're not looking to end up as the main character in somebody's viral video, do what the professionals do. Get a real tool. Here's a fun fact for anybody who might find themselves needing to remove a small tree someday, for reasons that don't involve a dispute with the neighbors: they make cordless mini chainsaws now. Little things, light enough to run with one hand, and they'll drop a tree up to about 6 inches thick in the time it took that guy to wind up for his third swing. No cord, no gas, no drama.
