Authoritarian fact-checking will not solve the crisis of confidence in media. Nor will political action under the guise of "fact-checking" or "journalism." "Fake news" and "misinformation" are both buzzwords that detach us from the stable modes of discourse that have worked well for us throughout time. We have liars, errors, and lobbyists.
