Jewish warfare is through legalism: you thought you had made a deal with the Jews, but it turns out there was a small clause in the deal you had not read, and even if you read it, that those words mean something entirely different than you thought they did. Christian warfare means walking the extra mile for peace. You must first turn the other cheek. But once you run out of cheeks: war, or even genocide. If the indians in the story had not raped and killed a woman and two children, the Christians would not have gone to war. The Jews however, would be likely to find some unrelated reason to go to war anyway. That is the difference.
