@kalogerosstilitis Fairness in fighting is a subtle thing. The bottom line is that one should always play to win. If playing 'fair' means adhering to rules you have no reason to expect your opponent will adhere to, you will lose. See: our entire democratic edifice. But no man rules alone, no man fights alone. Machiavelli was wrong in this sense. The reason 'honor' has and always will be important is because it promotes in-group loyalty. You fight with honor because it makes your men fight with honor. It's a practical thing that allows for victory.
