A decorative band found at Solberga, Askeby, in East Götaland (western #Sweden). Younger Iron Age (550 – 1050 CE). The Swedish archeologist Sune Lindqvist, writing in the Nordisk Tidskrift 1945, p. 479, believes that on this bronze piece is presented a theme suggesting the fishing of the Maid of Vellamo. "A high-born lady is swimming in all her finery, a shoulder-cape and a skirt with a train, and catches onto the hook of a bearded fisherman in his boat." — Kalevala, kansallinen aarre (The Kalevala, a National Treasure), 1949. The image has often been interpreted as Þórr fishing the serpent Jǫrmungandr — but does this look like a serpent to you?
