If you're going to form a social club (such as a sporting activity club or dinner club), remember the blackball admission method: first one existing member must sponsor an applicant for membership and introduce him, perhaps with some time spent as a prospect for everyone to get to know him, then all current members vote anonymously (classically, by each placing, unobserved, either a white or black marble in a covered bowl). The application is rejected if even one member rejects the applicant. You don't identify who chose to reject, they don't give a reason, you simply reject their choice. It keeps clubs small and manageable, and it lets the members use their private knowledge and thoughts to the fullest to keep people out who don't belong. Similarly, a secret ballot is useful to eject people from the club, by simple majority. You can even hold regular membership affirmation, by voting on whether to retain each member without anyone having to propose their ejection.
