This is been tried and no, GPS does not work if you are too far out in the wilderness. Not a single one of them has a signal in the wilderness. He's in the Transylvanian Alps. > "Are you going to have towers covering everywhere on earth including the oceans?" That's basically what already exists, except of course for extremely isolated areas. Radio towers can reach thousands of miles over the ocean. Look up the LORAN System. It's the precursor to GPS, and it used towers on land to track the movements of ships at sea.
