Crypto Wallet

Last updated June 17, 2026

A crypto wallet is software (or hardware) that stores your cryptocurrency private keys and allows you to send, receive, and manage digital assets on blockchain networks. Despite the name, a crypto wallet doesn't actually "hold" your cryptocurrency — the coins exist on the blockchain. The wallet holds the private keys that authorize you to move them. Lose the keys, lose the coins.

What it means

There are several types of wallets. Software wallets (phone apps or desktop programs) are convenient but connected to the internet, making them vulnerable to hacking. Hardware wallets (physical devices like Ledger or Trezor) store keys offline and sign transactions locally without exposing private keys to the internet — the gold standard for security. Custodial wallets (accounts on exchanges) technically hold your keys for you — which is the opposite of self-custody.

Every wallet has a seed phrase — typically 12 or 24 words — that can regenerate all the private keys. Back this up securely offline. Anyone who has your seed phrase has your funds.

How it works on Gab

To pay for GabPRO with cryptocurrency, visit pro.gab.com. You'll need a wallet that supports the relevant cryptocurrencies. Marketplace sellers who accept crypto from buyers arrange those payments directly — Gab does not process them. A beginner-friendly option is a mobile software wallet like BlueWallet (Bitcoin) or MetaMask (Ethereum and ERC-20 tokens). For significant holdings, hardware wallets are strongly recommended.

Self-custody is what a non-custodial wallet provides. Cryptocurrency is what the wallet manages. Bitcoin is the primary use case for many wallet users.
