Gab Chat

Gab Chat is the direct messaging system built into Gab Social. It lets users have private conversations — one-on-one or in group chats — outside the public timeline. It's the Gab equivalent of Twitter's DMs, Facebook Messenger, or Instagram Direct.

What it means

Direct messaging on social platforms is the private layer — the place where organizers coordinate, friends catch up, and professionals conduct outreach. For Gab users, having DMs on the same platform as their public posting means they don't need to migrate to a separate messaging app just to have a private conversation. Everything — public posts, group discussions, and private chats — lives in one place.

Gab Chat is available to all registered Gab users. You can message anyone who hasn't restricted messages, or accept/reject incoming requests.

How it works on Gab

Access Gab Chat through the messaging icon in the Gab navigation. Start a new conversation by searching for a username, or reply to an existing thread. Group conversations allow multiple participants. Messages are stored on Gab's servers; users concerned about maximum privacy should consider the tradeoffs between convenience and encryption level before discussing sensitive topics on any platform's built-in messaging.
