Why was Gab removed from the app stores?

Last updated June 17, 2026

Google removed Gab from the Play Store in 2017 for alleged content policy violations; Apple removed the Gab app in 2018 following a coordinated pressure campaign targeting the platform. Neither has restored the app.

Google Play (2017)

Google removed Gab from the Android Play Store citing violations of its developer policy — specifically related to user-generated content that violated Google's hate speech policies. This was one of the first major app store deplatforming actions against a social platform for content policy reasons.

Apple App Store (2018)

Apple removed Gab's iOS app in October 2018, citing the presence of objectionable content on the platform. Apple gave Gab 24 hours to address the alleged content violations before removing the app — an ultimatum that Gab's founders have described as impossible to meet in the given timeframe and as cover for a censorship action that had been pursued for other reasons.

Current access

Gab is accessible on Android and iPhone via the Progressive Web App (PWA) — install from gab.com in Chrome (Android) or Safari (iPhone). See the Android and iPhone install guides. This bypasses app store gatekeeping entirely.
