How do I make my Gab account private?
Last updated June 17, 2026
You can make your Gab account private so that only approved followers can see your posts. The setting is in your account Privacy preferences.
How to set your account to private
- Log in and go to Settings.
- Click Privacy.
- Enable the option to require follower approval (sometimes labeled "Lock account" or "Private account").
- Save your changes.
What changes when your account is private
Once your account is private, new follower requests must be approved by you before the person can see your posts. Your existing followers are unaffected. Your profile page is still publicly visible, but your posts will only show to approved followers, not to casual browsers or search engine crawlers.
Existing posts
Switching to a private account affects new posts going forward. Posts you made while public may have already been seen, shared, or indexed. If you want comprehensive privacy going forward, changing your account to private is the right move — but be aware that past public posts exist in the public record.
