Is Gab right-wing?

Last updated June 17, 2026

Gab's user base is predominantly right-leaning, but the platform is not right-wing by policy. Gab's moderation rules apply equally to all political viewpoints. The right-leaning composition of the user base reflects the demographics of who has been deplatformed from Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube — not a restriction on who can join.

Why the user base leans right

Between 2017 and 2023, the most systematic, high-profile deplatforming actions on major social media platforms disproportionately affected conservative, Christian, and libertarian accounts. People removed from those platforms needed somewhere to go. Gab was one of the first free speech alternatives and became the destination for many deplatformed right-leaning voices. This created a user base composition that skews heavily right — not by design, but by circumstance.

What Gab's policies actually say

Gab's terms of service don't require any particular political viewpoint. There are no rules about what political positions you can hold or express. A left-wing account that doesn't post illegal content won't be removed. Gab doesn't have a right-wing enforcement regime — it has a free speech enforcement regime that happens to attract right-wing users because they're the ones being deplatformed elsewhere.
