How do I enable 2FA on Gab?
Last updated June 17, 2026
Enable two-factor authentication on Gab from your Security settings to protect your account against unauthorized access. Even if someone gets your password, they can't log in without the second factor.
How to enable 2FA
- Log in and go to Settings → Security.
- Find Two-factor Authentication and click to enable it.
- Scan the QR code with an authenticator app — Authy, Google Authenticator, Aegis (Android, open source), or Raivo OTP (iOS) all work well.
- Enter the 6-digit code from your app to confirm it's working.
- Save your backup codes — store them somewhere safe offline. These are your recovery path if you lose your authenticator device.
Use an app, not SMS
Authenticator app-based 2FA is significantly more secure than SMS-based 2FA. SMS codes can be intercepted through SIM-swapping attacks, where an attacker convinces your mobile carrier to transfer your phone number to their SIM card. An authenticator app generates codes locally on your device — no SMS involved, no SIM-swap vulnerability.
After enabling 2FA
Each time you log in, you'll be prompted for your 2FA code after entering your password. Keep your authenticator app accessible on your phone. If you get a new phone, transfer your authenticator codes before wiping the old one.
