Is Gab safe to use?

Last updated June 17, 2026

Gab is safe to use as a social media platform. It's a public forum for discussion, not a vetted or curated community. The same common-sense practices that apply on any social platform apply on Gab: don't share personal details you wouldn't want public, be aware that public posts can be seen by anyone, and use a strong password.

Platform safety

From a technical security standpoint, Gab uses HTTPS encryption and supports two-factor authentication. Gab shows ads to free users (including third-party ads and retargeting); GabPRO removes ads from your feed.

Gab doesn't sell user data to data brokers. Businesses advertise through grow.gab.com. For ad tracking details, see does Gab use tracking pixels or retargeting.

Community content

Gab hosts a wide range of speech, including political content that many people find controversial. It does not pre-screen content for offensiveness. If you're looking for a heavily curated, moderated environment where challenging content is filtered out, Gab is not that. If you want to participate in open public discourse — including the parts that are uncomfortable — Gab is designed for that.

Standard precautions

  • Use a strong, unique password and enable 2FA.
  • Don't share your home address, phone number, or daily schedule publicly.
  • Use the block and mute tools for users you don't want in your experience.
  • For sensitive personal communications, use Signal rather than any social platform's DMs.
